Rieffel
Through a genuine and artisanal style, the Alsatian Domaine Rieffel offers typical and modern expressions at the same time. We are in the municipality of Mittelbergheim, approximately halfway between Colmar and Strasbourg, where Lucas Rieffel nurtures the family wine tradition, positioning himself among the modern artisanal producers of Alsace. Lucas, who represents the third generation of the Rieffel family dedicated to bottling and marketing their wines, has been involved in the family business since 1996 and has been influenced by renowned producers such as André Ostertag and Patrick Meyer. The structure of the winery dates back to the 15th century, and half of the production is exported abroad.
The Rieffel winery has just over 10 hectares of vineyards, planted with high densities of vines per hectare on clay and sandy soils, particularly rich in limestone. Lucas cultivates traditional varieties such as organic and biodynamic Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Sylvaner, Auxerrois Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Muscat Ottonel and Pinot Noir. In the cellar, fermentations occur spontaneously thanks to the sole intervention of indigenous yeasts, and maturations often take place in barriques and oak barrels of several passes. Generally, the whites undergo long aging on fine lees, and the additions of sulfites are minimal or none, depending on the characteristics of the wine and the vintage. The sparkling process for the Cremant occurs according to the Classic Method, and the dosages are kept low in order not to mask the intrinsic characteristics of the wine.
The production of Lucas Rieffel's estate consists of crystalline expressions that speak of terroir, endowed with intense and seductive aromas. The Cremant are among the specialties of the Domaine and have the extraordinary ability to combine dynamism and expressive breadth. Meanwhile, the whites express the strong mineral tone and the brightness of the Alsatian territory, while the Pinot Noir reflects the typical juicy and fruity taste that this variety assumes in the region.
